Only being able to promote to purple belt as a black belt is a newer thing. When and where I came up, even a brand new black belt could promote all the way to Brown. Seems strange to debate the legitimacy of a brown belt I received 11 years ago. 2 year(s) ago
Also, it totally depends on the association. Some have adult green belts, most don't. Some allow you to promote to black belt as a first degree black belt, others you can't till you're a third. The ibjjf is kind of thr standard nowadays. 2 year(s) ago
But not everyone has to follow that. I personally feel the ibjjf is mostly a money grab, 400 bucks just to register as a black belt, and then many fees after that? No thanks. 2 year(s) ago
My question was about Mike's degree at the time he promoted you to BB. No problem with the purple or brown. "Some allow you to" is actually them lending their 2:nd degree+ credentials by being a senior co-promoter or what you want to call it. 1 year(s) ago
He was a first degree black belt, I was also promoted under Renato who was there and also agreed/ allowed Mike to promote me. 1 year(s) ago |
